Prokop Veliký’s Congregation

Sbor Prokopa Velikého

The Prokop Holý Church (as well the Hus’ Church) was built in 1931 in the functionalistic style according to the design of the Bakov architect Josef Studničný. Its building hangs together with founding the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Bakov nad Jizerou in 1920.

The original building plan connected with building a vicarage was reduced for financial reason. The building is characterized by a composition of geometric elements in form of cuboids and prisms. The tower is 21 meters high and there are two bells placed inside. The roof was originally flat, in the 1960’s in was replaced by a close-couple roof due to water leaking.

Other than divine services and religion appointments both rooms of the church (congregation and oratory) serve for organising concerts, children theatre performances, lectures or exhibitions.
